Cattie Adhesives – Heat Seal Adhesives

What are Heat Seal Adhesives?

Heat Seal Adhesives & Coatings or Heat Seal Films are Hot Melts or Liquids that are applied to  paper, film, non-woven or foil substrates and Dried.  The final bond is not formed until the  Heat Seal Adhesive is later – Re-activated.

Cattie Adhesives manufactures a Full Line of  Hot Melt Heat Seals,  Heat Seal Films & Tapes,  Water based Heat Seal & Solvent based Heat Seal Coatings for many industrial – Food Packaging,  Flexible Packaging,  Paper Converting  and  Specialty Applications.

Our Heat Seal Adhesives & Coatings can be applied by different methods including –  Knife over roll, reverse roll, nip roller, gravure, brush, spray or roller.

The Heat Sealing process can be performed Both In-line or after initial application.

Our Heat Seals can also be Custom formulated for specialty applications to meet requirements for –  viscosity, solids %, non-blocking, clarity & heat sealing temperature.

Below are some of our most common types of Heat Seal Adhesives:

# 7-8258

7-8258 Acrylic Emulsion heat seal adhesive –  58% Solids,  100cps.  A packaging adhesive polymer that is heat reactive, self-curing acrylic latex with carboxyl functionality.  Strong adhesion to polar substances with excellent water resistance; fast drying and high bond strength for wet laminations; high oil and plasticiser resistance after crosslinking; broad FDA approvals.

General Information:  7-8258 is excellent for wet laminating because it dries rapidly and develops high bond strength quickly. It performs well in high speed laminating operations.  # 7-8258 also forms strong bonds at relatively low heat sealing temperatures – critical for many temperature-sensitive substrates.  It has good specific adhesion to most polar substrates, and it forms tough, permanent bonds. It also has good water resistance.

# HS410

HS410 is an EVA type heat seal film adhesive – Self-wound on a 42# silicon liner that is transferable from the silicon liner.  HS410 has a wide range activation temperature with good adhesion to a variety of substrates including metals, coated films, papers and plastics. It was designed for bonding to difficult substrates in the sanding disc and Tin Tie adhesive markets.

Adhesive Coat Weight lbs.:  14 ± 2.
Adhesive Softening Point °F:  175 ± 5.
Activation Temperature °F:  250 – 265.
Application Temperature °F:  300 – 350.
Dwell Time Sec:  0.2 plus (Depending on temperature and pressure).

General Information:  HS410 Adhesive is specifically formulated for bonding to metal, non-woven, paper and film substrates. All ingredients used in the makeup of this adhesive meet the requirements for FDA Regulation 175.105 “Adhesives”.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

What is Pressure Sensitive Adhesive?

Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, also called, “PSA” or  “Self Stick adhesive” is a flexible adhesive that bonds to a variety of substrates when applied to clean and dry surfaces with pressure. Pressure Sensitive adhesive bonds are formed with Pressure –  PSA’s Do Not Require solvent, water, or heat to activate the adhesive. The bond strength is directly influenced by the amount of pressure used to apply the adhesive to the surface.  PSA’s are a great choice for difficult to bond, low energy substrates.

PSA’s are unique because they do not solidify to form a hard material; PSA’s remain permanently tacky and can “Wet-Out” substrates on contact. The bonds are formed by bringing the PSA adhesive in contact with the substrate and applying pressure to form a bond.  PSA’s can be formulated for both – Permanent & Removable bonding Applications.

Benefits of Pressure Sensitive Water-Based Adhesives

Key Features
– Provides a smooth, quiet and magnetic-like peel.
– FDA compliant for direct food contact applications.
– Repositionable.

  • water-based pressure formulated to provide a repositionable seal with little diminishment in seal strength provided there is no contamination of the PSA.
  • FDA compliant for use in direct food contact applications. Seal strengths will vary with
specific coating, film treatment and processing.
  • Pressure Sensitive Water-Based Adhesives for Resealable Packaging.
  • Reseal available.
  • Slot and roll transfer coat.
  • Permanent and removable pressure sensitivity.
  • Cross-linkable to become stronger or removable.

Cattie Adhesives manufactures a full line of high performance Pressure Sensitives; available in several degrees of Color, Peel Strength, Tack, Shear Strength and Viscosity.

Our Pressure sensitives can be supplied in the form of a  Water based Acrylic Adhesive, Solvent based Adhesive, Hot melt PSA or UV Radiation Cured PSA.

PSAs make up the largest market share of the adhesives business. Our PSA’s can be formulated as a Permanent or Removable grade adhesive and Bond to a wide variety of substrates. The primary raw materials used in formulating our PSA’s are Acrylics, Silicone, Rubber, SBS, Polyurethane, Vinyl Acetate and Epoxy.

We have the capability to Coat our Pressure Sensitives onto many different substrates including – felts,  films,  foams, release liners,  magnet,  papers,  plastics, and  textiles; for various  Medical Tape  and  Industrial Tape applications.

Our Pressure Sensitive Adhesives can be Coated  and supplied in  – Large Master Roll Form or be Slit down and Converted to smaller – Rolls of Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tape.

Our Pressure Sensitive adhesives (PSA’s) are commonly used in the following Applications:

  • Automotive
