PVA’s,  Hot Melts,  Hot Melt Polyurethane adhesives  &  Liquid Moisture Cure Polyurethanes.

PVA- Woodworking Adhesives

PVA glues (Polyvinyl-acetate) are classified into 3 categories based on Water Resistance:

Type-I (waterproof)  &  Type-II (water resistant) PVA glues, contain water, but also strands of polymers that become entangled and chemically bonded to perform better in exterior conditions. These adhesives demand the same clamp time as type-III PVA glue, but generally have a longer open time and bond at colder temperatures.

Type-III (no water resistance) PVA glue contains up to 50% water and cures as the water evaporates. Glued surfaces must be clamped together until they reach 15% to 20% of their bond strength, generally in about an hour. It can take up to 24 hours, to reach full bond strength.

    • Water resistance aside, there’s little difference in the strength of the joint made with any type of PVA glue.
    • They all can resist forces around 3500 psi to 4000 psi. PVA glue can be cleaned up with water. Once it’s dry, you can scrape or sand away excess glue.

    • Type I  and  Type II PVA glue –  used for Exterior trim, outdoor furniture.
    • Type III  PVA glue –  used for cabinetry, Interior woodwork and trim.

Below are some of our most common types of  Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) Wood Working Adhesives:

# 7-805

7-805 is a premium internally catalyzed Type II PVA cold press adhesive for bonding a variety of decorative materials to particleboard and plywood substrates and general assembly.

# 7-816

7-816 is a fast setting cross linking PVA used for hot and cold pressing decorative overlays to plywood, particleboard and MDF.  This product works very well with veneer applications without bleed through and may also be used for RF applications.

# 7-842

7-842 is a general purpose PVA with long closed assembly time.  It is ideal for cold pressing applications.

# 7-847

7-847 is a premium fast setting PVA wood glue that is ideal for jointing, edge gluing, dowelling and assembly of all types of wood products.

# 7-856

7-856 is a fast setting yellow wood glue used to bond soft woods, hardwoods, particleboard, etc.  Applications include jointing, edge gluing, tongue and groove, panel to frame, etc.

# 7-890

7-890 is a post-formable vinyl acetate adhesive designed for immediate bonding of HPL to particleboard, plywood, MDF and wood.  Product can be roll coated or sprayed and processed by hot bonding, hot laminating, hot pressing, dead stacking and pinch rolling and stacking.  Can be used in conjunction with 7-898 on the profiles for post-forming applications.  Available in Green as 7-890GR.

# 7-894

7-894 is a post-formable vinyl acetate adhesive designed for immediate bonding of HPL to particleboard, plywood, MDF and wood.  Product can be roll coated and processed by hot bonding, hot laminating, hot pressing, dead stacking and pinch rolling and stacking.  Can be used in conjunction with 7-898 on the profiles for post-forming applications.  Available in Green as 7-894GR.

Polyurethane Adhesives

Polyurethane Adhesives  Outperform  PVA glues in most applications, including:  bonding stone, concrete, ceramics and foams.

100% solid Liquid Moisture Cure Polyurethanes  are not drawn into woods as drastically as PVA glues.  Wood joints glued with polyurethane will generally accept stain and clear finish better than with other types of glue.

Because polyurethane glues cure by a chemical reaction triggered by moisture, they work well on woods with high moisture content or on oily woods.

Polyurethane glues – Do Not have high initial tack and generally take 8 hours to reach full strength and require clamping for proper bonds. The clamps usually can be removed after 4 hours.

The cured strength of polyurethane glue is similar to PVA— approximately 3000 psi—strong enough for most assembly applications.

Prior to drying, polyurethane glue can be removed using solvents such as mineral spirits or acetone. Once the glue has cured, you can scrape or sand away squeeze-out.

Polyurethane Adhesives –  used for Oily wood, finished wood pieces, non-woods.

Below are some of our most common types of Water Based Polyurethane Adhesives:

# 7-859

7-859 is a two-part water-based polyurethane adhesive for membrane pressing or vacuum forming PVC foils in the manufacture of kitchen cabinet doors, furniture components and other 3D applications.  It is used in conjunction with Hardener 7-560 to provide increased heat and water resistance.  This is a workhorse product that has a large window of operation.

# 7-866

7-866 is a two-part water-based polyurethane adhesive for membrane pressing or vacuum forming high gloss PVC foils in the manufacture of kitchen cabinet doors, furniture components and other 3D applications. It is used in conjunction with Hardener 7-560 to provide increased heat and water resistance.

# 7-883WH

7-883WH is a one-part water-based polyurethane adhesive for membrane pressing or vacuum forming PVC foils in the manufacture of kitchen cabinet doors, furniture components and other 3D applications.

# 7-560 – Hardener

7-560 Hardener 560 is an isocyanate cross-linking agent used to increase water resistance, heat resistance and bond strength. It is used in conjunction with water-based polyurethane dispersions such as 7-859 and 7-866.
