Metallocene hot melt for case and carton sealing: cleaner running, less char
For case, tray and carton lines on coated and high-recycled board. Request a free sample or line trial: 800-249-0337.
If you run case, tray or carton lines, you know where the downtime comes from: charred glue in the tank, clogged nozzles, and cases that pop open on high-memory or high-recycled board. Cattie's metallocene hot melts are built for pot-life stability, clear color and heat resistance.
- Cleaner running: clear color and pot-life stability in the tank
- Can use less adhesive than EVA in some lines; trial to confirm
- Fewer nozzle clogs, which is typical of metallocene hot melts generally, since they resist char build-up
- Hot tack that grabs quickly to limit pop-opens on high-memory board
- For coated stocks and high recycled-content board

Why plants switch from EVA
Metallocene hot melt is lower density than EVA, so it can use less adhesive than EVA in some lines; trial to confirm. A free line trial shows what yours saves.
Metallocene hot melts are also known for stable viscosity in the pot and resistance to char. That typically means fewer clogged nozzles and filters and less time spent cleaning tanks.
Why Cattie
Matched to your line
We size the grade to the board, the coating and the applicator, whether that's wheel, extrusion or jet.
Freezer to high heat
The line covers about −40°F to 160°F service (typical, grade-specific, per TDS), and freezer formulations go to about −60°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS) for blast, flash and quick-freeze packs.
Made in the USA
Cattie makes industrial adhesives in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and ships across North and Central America. Serving industrial adhesive buyers since 2001.
Pick a starting grade
Five stock metallocene grades for case and carton sealing, all for coated stocks:
| Grade | Type | Apply at | Set | Viscosity | Color | Service temp |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8280 | Freezer grade | about 250°F | Medium-fast | ~1000 cps at 250°F | Clear/white | to about −60°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS) |
| 8365 | Premium freezer grade | about 250°F | Fast | ~1100 cps at 250°F | Clear/white | to about −60°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS) |
| 8309 | Premium, high heat resistance | 350°F | Fast | ~800 cps at 350°F | Clear/white | to about 160°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS) |
| 8341 | Premium, high heat resistance | 350°F | Fast | ~1100 cps at 350°F | Clear/white | to about 160°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS) |
| 9028 | Premium, high heat resistance | 350°F | Fast | ~900 cps at 350°F | Light tan | to about 160°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS) |
Freezer grades 8280 and 8365 apply at a low 250°F. The 350°F grades 8309, 8341 and 9028 are for high heat resistance. Freezer grades 8280 and 8365 hold to about −60°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS). High-heat grades 8309, 8341 and 9028 are rated to about 160°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS).

Questions packaging plants ask
What is metallocene hot melt?
A packaging hot melt built on metallocene polymers instead of EVA. Cattie's metallocene grades are made for case, tray and carton sealing, with pot-life stability, clear color, and heat resistance.
Does it use less adhesive than EVA?
Metallocene hot melt is lower density than EVA, so it can use less adhesive than EVA in some lines; trial to confirm. A free line trial shows what yours saves.
Which grade should I use for freezer cases?
8280 and 8365 are Cattie's freezer grades. Both apply at about 250°F. Cattie's metallocene hot melts can be formulated for freezer use to about −60°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS). Both hold to about −60°F (typical, grade-specific, per TDS).
Is it food-contact compliant?
Cattie can offer packaging adhesives with FDA clearances. Ask us for the grade and documentation for your application.
