Wire-wound metering rods have been used more than 75 years to put an even liquid on a moving web. They are also called applicator rods, Mayer bars, equalizer bars, coating rods, and doctor rods. Early rods were carbon steel wrapped with music wire. Production rods now are precision-ground stainless cores, tightly wound with polished stainless wire.
