How to fix common defects in laminated film structures

Cloudiness, edge curl, low bond, and tunneling are plant problems, not mysteries. Check wet-out, dryer, nip, and pot life before you blame the adhesive. Call 800-249-0337.

Cloudiness

1. The substrate does not wet. Oil or a wax-like finish fights the adhesive. A modified solvent blend can attack that surface. High static also hurts wet-out.

2. The adhesive will not flow. Use a polishing bar or drop viscosity.

3. The coat does not get time to flow, so the applicator-roll cell pattern dries in. Put negative pressure on the dryer to stop hot-air spill-out, or increase the distance from the coating head to the dryer entrance.
