How to apply hot melts to paper laminates

A slot-orifice coater puts a uniform hot-melt film on paper. You activate it later on the laminator. Faster than wet glue and a 24- to 72-hour cure.

Paper foil and decorative laminates need a uniform adhesive film, edge to edge, that also fills the board. Wet adhesives, slow lamination, and a 24- to 72-hour wait before machining used to be the only choices. A 100% solids hot melt on a slot-orifice coater changed that for furniture papers on MDF, particleboard, and hardboard.

Electron-beam-cured, 100% solids top coats on the paper are also being run with these hot melts as a replacement for heavier impregnated papers. Combined with the adhesive film they raise resistance of the foil face to heat, spilled liquid, mar, and impact.
