Stickies kill recycled sheet quality. Use a four-step lab screen — neutral, alkaline, dispersibility factor, density removal — before you lock a hot-melt raw material.

About a quarter of U.S. paper is recycled; OCC drives much of that fiber. Hot melts and coatings that do not disperse become stickies on the machine or shiny/tacky spots in the sheet. Screen raw materials and finished adhesives the same way mills think about repulping.
