Hot to do a blocking test for web fed coatings

Face/back and face/face blocking are not slip. Three lab methods: 2 lb stack, lacquer dead-load, high-pressure EVA. Call 800-249-0337.

Blocking is the tendency of coated webs to stick to each other. Face/back (F/B): coated face to the back of the same web — a bad roll becomes a “log” and will not unwind. Face/face (F/F): two coated faces — wrappers stick in a stack unless you put dividers. Do not confuse blocking with coefficient of friction (slip).

What's in this guide

  • Two-pound stack (general coatings)
  • Lacquers and water-based (higher activation)
  • Hot-melt EVA (pressure-sensitive activation)
